Excel Institute was established in 1995 as a private non-profit corporation designed to serve the mentally challenged. Since its inception, Excel has been committed to meeting the educational needs of special populations desiring to experience academic success in their education endeavors. Certified educators work with other Individual Education Plan team members to design each students Individual Education Plan (IEP). This team ensures that the IEP maximizes all learning experiences and offers a variety of instructional, functional and vocational opportunities that will provide each student the opportunity to achieve desired outcomes. The school day is highly structured with a diverse offering of learning opportunities appropriate to the level of the student and the appropriate to the level of the student and the objectives to be achieved . Computer technology plays a vital role in the design and development of the program of study for each student. All students are expected to become computer literate, to read and comprehend, to write and express themselves, and to perform mathematical computations. Vocational and Technical programs are designed in conjunction with the DayStar Program a supported employment program with the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Service (ADRS). Employers are collaborators with the educational team in implementing a plan designed to assist students in their achievement of desired vocational goals. Currently Excel is forging new pathways of service. Each component undergoes an evaluative process in order to continuously strengthen services and to provide documentation of student and program success. Excel provides students with the Winning Edge!
